Benjamin Franklin Cummings Institute of Technology, now known as Franklin Cummings Tech, is on its way to a new state-of-the-art campus in Boston’s Nubian Square. See the details about the design, permitting process, and plans for the college’s move to a new building at 1011 Harrison Avenue in Roxbury.

    Groundbreaking Ceremony in Nubian Square

    The college celebrates the start of construction of its Nubian Square campus with an official groundbreaking ceremony attended by Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, city and state officials, community partners, philanthropic partners, and college leadership.

    Nubian Campus Liberty CleanTech Lab

    Liberty Mutual Insurance provides $2M in support of new campus

    Liberty Mutual Insurance donates $2 million to support the college's new campus in Nubian Square to boost access to clean tech careers in environmental justice communities. In recognition of Liberty Mutual’s support, the rooftop deck of the new campus will be named the Liberty Level.

    MassDevelopment Funding Clears the Way for New Campus Construction

    Franklin Cummings Tech will start building its new campus in Roxbury’s Nubian Square this spring after securing the last piece of financing when MassDevelopment, the state’s quasi-public economic development and finance authority, approved a $25 million bond.

    A $2M grant from the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development's Massworks Infrastructure Program provides funding for drainage and utility connections, stormwater retention, and streetscape improvements to support the development of the Nubian Square campus.

    Boston Parks Commission Approval

    The Boston Parks Commission votes to approve the new campus building plans and the landscaping treatment of the areas adjacent to the historic Eliot Burying Ground. The college will monitor construction and take care to avoid any potential disturbances to the Burying Ground.

    Contractor Dellbrook One Way begins demolition of former Harrison Supply Buildings at the new campus site at 1003-1013 Harrison Ave.

    Boston Landmarks Commission Approval

    Boston Landmarks Commission approves the design of the new campus building. Because the new campus building is adjacent to the historic Eliot Burying Ground, Landmarks Commission review was required.
