Student FAQs

What is FYE?

FYE is designed to prepare students for their academic program and will include presentations and social opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to meet fellow classmates, faculty, staff, and student leaders. If not already completed, students will also have the opportunity to set up student email and student portal, get a student ID, finalize financial aid paperwork, and order/pick up textbooks.

What do I need to do before FYE?

1. Pay your $100 deposit in full. Students who do not pay their deposit will not receive a class schedule on their first day of classes until payment is complete.

2. Complete your registration process. This may be slightly different for each student so be sure to touch base with your Admissions Counselor and Student Financial Services for details. For more information, click here.

When will I get my schedule and advisor agreement?

After your deposit is submitted, students are encouraged to come in prior to FYE to meet with the Student Success Staff to register for classes and receive their advisor assignment. Walk-in hours to meet with a success coach will be held Monday through Thursday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. You can also set up an appointment by emailing Ashley Mansfield, Director of Student Success at amansfield@bfit.edu. During this meeting, students will also set up their student portal, student email address, order textbooks, and review curriculum and expectations at the college.

What do I need to do before the first day of classes?

Make sure everything is complete with Admissions and Student Financial Services.

Meet with Student Success Staff to complete the following:

    • Review curriculum and major requirements
    • Register for classes and receive advisor assignment
    • Set up student portal and student email address
    • Order your textbooks!
    • Take student photo for ID
    • Complete Registrar paperwork, including FERPA and photo release form.

    Parent & Family FAQs

What can I expect at FYE?

Parents and family members are welcome to attend FYE. Orientation will give family members the opportunity to attend our Parent/Family program, separate from student orientation. Programs may include information on campus safety, financial aid, career services, tutoring services, campus involvement, and academic advising. Parents are invited to join their students at lunch for a mid-day break.

What is the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)?

Once an individual reaches the age of 18, s/he must provide written permission in order for the college to release any information from his/her academic record. Follow the FERPA link for more information.
