“We owe it to kids to prepare them for the future… and we [at BFIT] are in a unique position to be able to do that.”
Dave has become increasingly involved in Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology since his induction to the Board of Trustees five years ago. As a consultant with a business and finance background, Dave thought he would contribute to strategic planning. But his concern for the achievement gap facing inner-city youth led Dave to get more involved. Now at BFIT he is volunteering in the Career Center preparing students for their first ever professional job interviews as well as heading up the Development Committee.
Through the intimate conversations of a mock interview, Dave has learned of students’ resilience in overcoming challenges and their incredible dedication to their career aspirations. As he learned more about the transformative impact of a BFIT education, Dave began funding 3-5 scholarships a year. “BFIT is completely focused on doing the right thing for the kids, getting a good education, employment, and having kids graduate with minimal loans.”
Dave is continually impressed with the caring staff, the individualized support, and the overall attitude towards student success at BFIT. “At BFIT you are surrounded by people who are passionate about education and employment, and nobody takes it for granted.” As the new Trustee Chair of the Development Committee, Dave is committed to further closing the tuition gap for students. In this role he hopes to further to ensure that students are “happy, productive members of society with many options [after graduation] without a debt burden.”
