Giving to BFIT
For centuries Boston has been a global center for innovation and education. From the invention of constitutional democracy and the clipper ship, to the dynamic STEM-based economy that defines the region today, Boston has long stood for progress in all human endeavors.
But not all Bostonians share in that progress equally. Today, Boston is home to thousands of disconnected young people-- women and men who have left high school and are not pursuing post-secondary education or holding a job that pays a livable wage. They are disproportionally people of color and have lived much of their lives close to the poverty line.
Our mission springs from a simple idea first expressed by our benefactor, Benjamin Franklin, who first articulated his vision for our school more than 200 years ago: that “good apprentices make good citizens.” That idea has grown into the belief that all people should share in the progress and prosperity of this age of innovation, and that poverty, race, or geography should not be a barrier to education, work, and worth. At BFIT, we believe that with a solid foundation of technical skills and effective instruction, the disconnected youth of Boston can change their lives, communities, and the world.
The results speak for themselves: BFIT's graduation rate is nearly triple the average for local two-year colleges, 93% of students find meaningful employment in their field of study or continue their education, and their median salary one year after leaving BFIT, nearly $40,000 a year, is twice their earnings before coming to BFIT.
Your gift can help the bright, determined, and resilient women and men who come to BFIT in search of a better future. It can help provide financial aid and scholarships, essential student support services, and the continued academic excellence of our programs.
