Building a Future for Boston’s Youth

For centuries, Boston has been a center for innovation and education. Today, it is ideally positioned to prosper because of a 21st century knowledge-based economy.

Yet, not all Bostonians will share in this prosperity equally.  Today, thousands of young people, many of whom have left high school, are not pursuing post-secondary education, nor holding jobs that pay a living wage. They are disproportionally young people of color, and often reside in neighborhoods disconnected from the myriad of opportunities -- educational, cultural and economic -- that abounds in present-day Boston.

Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) believes that all young people should share in the promise and prosperity of the innovation-based economy of greater Boston.  With access to the right educational training and skills, the disconnected youth of Boston can change their lives and communities, and at the same time, contribute to the vitality of greater Boston’s economy.

Stories of Impact

$5K for 50

With a BFIT degree, the underemployed youth of Boston could leave behind minimum wage work for rewarding jobs that offer a career path and a future. Their success is also your success, as it strengthens our neighborhoods and fuels eastern Massachusetts’ vibrant economy.

Over 70% of BFIT students come from low-income backgrounds where the median family income is just $23,700. Many more would enroll but for lack of financial resources.

BFIT is so committed to helping more students, we’ve maintained tuition levels flat at $16,950 for the past six years. Still, available financial aid and loans only provides for $12,000, leaving students a burden of close to $5,000.  Such a bill seems unfathomable to our students.

Your gift to the “$5K for 50” appeal will close the $5,000 gap with scholarships for 50 new students. 50 students who can say Yes! to a college degree. Yes! to a career with future.

More than 90% of BFIT graduates join the work place or continue with their education. With an associate degree their median starting salaries exceed $39,000 -- with some majors commanding over $60,000.

Join us in helping deserving students overcome the financial challenges of acquiring an education and setting a clear path for a life of achievement and advancement.

Each $5,000 gift provides a scholarship that enables one of our students to continue their education and create a path to success. Your gift of any amount adds with others to close the gap.
