Description of Duties:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains, operates and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment throughout the Jail and/or House of Correction and performs related work as required SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer SUPERVISION EXERCISED None DUTIES AND Responsibilities •Assist in the repair and overhaul of all HVAC equipment, as directed •Perform water treatment tests to ensure that all equipment is adequately protected •Take regular scheduled readings and complete division log sheets and daily reports •Replace fan belts, air filters and other related equipment as directed •Comply with all written policies and procedures •Perform housekeeping duties in division areas as directed •Perform such other duties and assignments as may be assigned

Required Qualifications:

Qualifications •Technical certificate or college degree in related field; •Knowledge of the standard preventive maintenance procedures for HVAC and related electrical systems; •Experience in working with pipes, machines and equipment with large and small parts; •Well-versed in safety practices and procedures for installation, maintenance and repair; •Ability to work well with other technicians and communicate effectively; •US citizenship or legal authorization to work in the US; •Knowledge of Emergency Stand-by Power Plant •Knowledge of fans, pumps, valves, air handling units, heat and vent units, heat pumps, chillers, and all related HVAC systems. •Familiarity with fire pumps and sprinkler systems. •Familiarity with operation of smoke control systems. •Availability to work any shift and/or mandatory overtime MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS •Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. overhead •Ability to climb up/down stairs •Ability to climb up/down ladders to institution roof •Ability to do overhead work •Ability to work on facility roofs and from lifts at significant heights
