Admissions
Students of the BENJAMIN FRANKLIN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY are distinguished by their desire to learn theoretical and technical concepts and their practical industrial applications. Because the intensity of the theoretical study varies from program to program, the level of high school preparation for admission varies accordingly.
General Information
Students planning careers in engineering technology, or anticipating transfer to a college of engineering, must undertake a program of study at BFIT that complements the study of science and engineering concepts with the development of practical skills in the laboratories, shops, and drafting rooms.
It is recommended that applicants to the industrial and engineering technology programs have completed four full-year courses in English, a minimum of three years in mathematics through Algebra II, and one course in science.
Students who are more interested in learning a specialized skill and developing expertise in a specific technical area should have undertaken high school courses that reflect satisfactory development of basic English, mathematics, and science or technical skills.
Massachusetts students, who graduated in 2003 and after, are required to submit proof that they have passed MCAS. Students who have not passed MCAS can take BFIT's Accuplacer Test to determine if they have an ability-to-benefit. Once a student passes the Accuplacer Test, he or she is eligible to enroll and apply for financial aid.
