A Bride Shares Her Story
How did you hear about Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology?
One of the caterers we had spoken with (I believe it was Gourmet Caterers) knew we were looking at venues around the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, where our service would be, and recommended we look into the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology. I'm so glad we took her advice!
Where was your wedding held at the college?
Our wedding ceremony was held just down the street at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Then we had our reception in the Benjamin Franklin's beautiful auditorium and lobby.
Can you describe the experience?
In a word: perfect. When we first looked at the space, we fell in love with the unique, historic feel of the Benjamin Franklin. We didn't want a theme, but we new we wanted live jazz music, a BBQ buffet and happy guests -- we got all of that and more! The unique architectural features of the Benjamin Franklin were highlighted by dim, red-gold lighting to convey the perfect 1930s club feel. There was even a stage for our vintage hot jazz band. Our guests had plenty of room to socialize, grab a drink, visit the buffet and dance the night away. We had a photobooth set up in the lobby as well as another bar with a few hightop tables. Everyone had a wonderful time -- and there was no such thing as a bad background in any of our wedding photos!

They were just wonderful to work with."
What made it special?
In our search for the perfect wedding venue, we often found ourselves faced with a kind of cookie-cutter approach to wedding receptions at a lot of locations. The venues were beautiful, but didn't fit what we wanted for our special day. The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology was the perfect "blank slate" for us to work with! Not only was it a beautiful, vintage setting, but we could bring in our own band, decorations, food, etc. -- anything! And Jamie was just wonderful to work with; helping secure all the right paperwork, making sure we covered all the bases, and having everlasting patience with my many, many questions!
Can you remember a moment when you thought of how you made the right choice to host your wedding at BFIT?
So many times! Right off the bat we were thrilled that we wouldn't be restricted by a list of "approved" vendors. As the process wore on, I was so impressed with the Benjamin Franklin staff -- Jamie in particular -- and their conscientious assistance in making our wedding day exactly what we wanted. When we walked into the Benjamin Franklin auditorium, announced as man and wife in front of all our dear family and friends, I couldn't believe that what had been in our heads for months and months was finally a reality -- and better than I could have ever imagined! Everything was beautiful and we didn't have to think of a THING on our wedding day outside of how utterly happy we were.
"The setting was very different from other wedding venues and we were able to really create something that felt like us."
As we look back at the photos from that day, we knew we made the right decision going with the Benjamin Franklin. The setting was very different from other wedding venues to begin with, and then we were able to really create something that felt like us. When I look back on the entire process, I can't believe how lucky we were to find such an accommodating, accessible and overall amazing venue!
Anything else you would like to share?
There's a lot of "should do's" when planning a wedding, and it can be hard to stick to what you want. Planners, caterers, even your own friends and family offer so much "helpful" advice that it can get overwhelming! But we never felt pressured to settle on something we didn't want when working with the Benjamin Franklin. They answered all of our questions honestly and offered straightforward, constructive advice on how to achieve the reception we wanted.
