  • "Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology changed my life.  I began at the age of 22 and did not see any hopes of graduating with a degree.  But with the personalized attention and faculty who really care, I now have a Computer Engineering Degree and work at IBM, something I always dreamed of doing.  The Office of Career Services facilitated this internship and it has had such an impact in my life.  If it had not been for BFIT, my quality of life would not be what it is today.  Thank you BFIT!"

Service-Learning

 What is Service-Learning?
Service-learning is a teaching methodology that utilizes community service as a means of helping students gain a deeper understanding of course objectives, acquire new knowledge, and engage in civic activity. Service-learning enhances student learning and address community needs. Through service-learning activities, students make connections between their academic learning and the broader society. It provide students with the opportunity to practice the communication and teamwork skills necessary for success in their professional and personal lives and learn to appreciate the value of civic awareness and responsibility.

Service-learning comprises course content, service to the community and/or non-profit organizations, and student reflection upon these connections. In contrast, Community Service/Volunteerism is an experience that connects the student with the community to address a community need. The experience allows for the exchange of energy and knowledge between the student and the community, but does not apply to specific course content or clarify specific theoretical concepts.

 Service-Learning at BFIT

The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership can assist faculty in the connection to service-based organizations.
