Office of Residence Life and Housing
The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology offers limited housing through a relationship with the Berkeley YWCA residence. The Berkeley Residence is located directly across the street from the college in the heart of the South End. The Residence hosts both male and female occupants serving as both a permanent residence and a hostel for tourists both nationally and abroad. This year, BFIT will offer space to approximately 40 students. The cost for the 2009/2010 academic year will be $9,600 ($4,800 per semester).
Two resident advisors (R.A.’s) live on site throughout the academic year. They will conduct bi-monthly meetings at the Berkeley Residence to assist students with the transition to college, build community and create social opportunities. The R.A.’s will review and enforce all policies of BFIT and the Berkeley Residence. A handbook is provided to all resident students by the Berkeley Residence in addition to the BFIT student handbook. Students are required to adhere to the policies and regulations of both institutions.
There are additional programs that involve the ability for students to purchase a lunch plan with Billy’s Sub Shop and a student membership at the Wang YMCA of Chinatown. These costs are separate from the housing agreement.
A $500 deposit is required to reserve a room. There will be a waiting list once all rooms are filled.
