Under the provisions of Chapter 23, Section 22, of the 1988 Massachusetts Health Security Act, each institution of higher education must require students taking nine or more credits to participate in the student health insurance program or submit waiver information showing participation in a health insurance program with comparable coverage.
If students already have comparable health insurance, they can complete a Health Insurance Waiver form at https://consolidatedhealthplan.com/group/31/waiver/1. This website will be available for students interested in waiving the college health insurance plan. The deadline to waive student health insurance is Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Failure to waive the health insurance by the deadline listed above will result in the student health insurance charge remaining on a student's tuition bill and payment will be required. When waiving the health insurance charge, the student will need their current health insurance ID card in order to waive the plan.
The charge for student health insurance for the 2011-2012 academic year is $390.00. This fee covers the period from August 28, 2011 to August 28, 2012, and is non-refundable. Students who will be beginning to attend BFIT starting in January 2012 will pay a pro-rated insurance charge of $263 with coverage from January 1, 2012 to August 28, 2012.
