  • “Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology has prepared me to advance quickly in my chosen field of study – renewable energy resources. Renewable energy is the way of the future – the dependence we have on fossil fuels is crippling, and I want to lead the way in finding new solutions. The industry is flooded with engineers – but BFIT trains us to be engineering technicians. Not only do we know the principles behind why, but we can also do – and the do is what will change the world.”

Overview

Andrew Godek_LowRes.JPG Benjamin Franklin
Institute of Technology, founded in 1908, is a private, technical college located in Boston's historic South End neighborhood.

The college is proud of its long tradition of educating students for technical careers.   We offer our students technical education combined with the core communication and analytical skills that will prepare them to build a viable career.

Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology is committed to access and opportunity for all students, and provides the academic support and advising to help students reach their goals.

Our most recent graduation statistics show
53% of our students completing their program within three years.  According to the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) that number is twice the national average for two-year colleges, and three times greater than the graduation rate for two-year colleges in Massachusetts.

The technical focus of the college has traditionally attracted a predominantly male student body.  However, the number of women in the technology fields is growing, and our student population reflects that changing demographic. Currently there are 594 students at the college, 11% female and 89% male.  The student body is racially and ethnically diverse, with 57% minority enrollment.  Some housing options are available, but most BFIT students are commuters who take advantage of the region’s convenient and easily accessible public transportation system.  About 80% of the students reside within the greater Boston metropolitan area, with the remainder hailing from other parts of Massachusetts and neighboring New England States.

With the help of our industrial partners and advisory boards, we keep our programs aligned with workplace demands.  Our most recent survey of recent graduates indicated that 67% were employed in a field related to their major, and 30% had transferred to a four-year college to complete their baccalaureate degree.
