Green Technology Committee
As part of the awareness of sustainability issues, the board of trustees approved the formation of a Green Technology Committee led by board member Chris Morss. The committee adopted the following mission statement:
“
The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology strives to infuse sustainable practice in its operations and curriculum. The college is committed to providing a values-based learning experience that motivates and supports individual and collective efforts to create environmentally and socially sustainable practices at the college and in the larger community
.”
President’s Commitment
BFIT joined over 600 other colleges around the country in signing the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment.
Presidents who signed the commitment have pledged to eliminate their campuses’ greenhouse gas emissions, over time. This involves:
-
Completing an emissions inventory.
-
Within two years, setting a target date and interim milestones for becoming climate neutral.
-
Taking immediate steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by choosing from a list of short-term actions.
-
Integrating sustainability into the curriculum and making it part of the educational experience.
-
Making the action plan, inventory and progress reports publicly available.
The Green Technology Committee will be working to guide the college, as we strive to reach these goals.
